The CER decree published on the website of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, which stimulates the creation and development of renewable energy communities and widespread self-consumption in Italy, has been in force since January 24, 2024.
The text identifies two ways to promote the development of RECs in the country: a non-repayable contribution of up to 40% of eligible costs, financed by the PNRR and aimed at communities whose plants are built in municipalities with fewer than five thousand inhabitants, which will support the development of two gigawatts overall, and an incentive tariff on renewable energy produced and shared throughout the national territory. The two benefits are cumulative. The provision will therefore encourage the development of five gigawatts overall of renewable energy production plants.
