The event “SUN4U – The energy of communities” was held on May 17, 2025, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Architecture – Fontanella Borghese campus in Rome, an important opportunity for discussion on the strategic role of Renewable Energy Communities (REC) in the country’s energy transition.
Promoted by Federesco with the support of institutional and scientific partners, the meeting brought together industry experts, representatives of local governments, research institutions and third sector organizations, offering an in-depth overview of key topics such as the evolution of RECs, technological innovation and social inclusion in the energy system.
After the initial greetings by Prof. Spartaco Paris of the CITERA Center – La Sapienza, numerous high-profile interventions followed, which enriched the debate with concrete experiences, strategic visions and development prospects.
The central moment of the day was the award ceremony of the 11 pilot Renewable Energy Communities of the SUN4U project, active entities that are experimenting with new participatory models of energy production and sharing (urban gardens, stadiums, parishes, auditoriums, etc.) actively contributing to the construction of a more sustainable future.
Among these, the most prominent RECS is undoubtedly that of Corvialè, made up of 61 members, including 50 families and 11 companies from the Municipio XI.
The students of the Terza Missione Sapienza workshop of the CITERA center were also awarded, who designed and built, thanks also to the contribution of Sun4U, a demonstrator of sustainable technologies within the community urban garden Ort9 of Casal Brunori.
The event represented a significant stage in the journey of the SUN4U project, confirming its value as a platform for innovation, collaboration and growth of energy communities on the national territory.
