The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) in its new report Overview of the potential and challenges for agri-photovoltaics in the European Union argues that agrivoltaics in Europe alone could exceed the EU’s 2030 solar target. By allocating just 1% of the usable surface area to this multi-use application, a photovoltaic capacity of 944 GW could be developed. That is 224 GW more than the RED III end-of-decade target.
